What's the story

Former United States President Donald Trump has stated that he does not foresee himself running for president again in 2028 if he loses the upcoming election to Vice President Kamala Harris. In an interview with Sharyl Attkisson on Full Measure, Trump was asked about his potential future political ambitions. To this, he responded unequivocally, "No I don't. I think that will be — that will be it. I don't see that at all."

Ballot

Hope I would be successful at ballot box: Trump

The property magnate added that he hoped he would come out "successful" at the ballot box. According to polls, Trump and Harris, who replaced 81-year-old incumbent Joe Biden as the Democratic candidate, are tied in critical battleground states. Trump lost to Biden in 2020, but he refused to accept defeat, alleging the election was "stolen" and fueling conspiracy theories.

Cabinet speculation

Trump's potential cabinet picks remain undisclosed

During the interview, Attkisson also questioned Trump about potential roles for notable figures such as tech billionaire Elon Musk, former Democratic congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, and former independent presidential candidate Robert F Kennedy Jr in his administration. Trump refrained from making any commitments, stating it was "not appropriate" and "too early." However, he did share his views on what these individuals could potentially contribute if he were elected.

Potential contributions

Trump envisions roles for Musk, Gabbard and Kennedy

Trump praised Kennedy's potential contributions to health and environmental policies, citing his awareness of healthier practices in other countries. He also commended Gabbard, describing her as "a common sense person." During a recent Fox News interview, Gabbard expressed interest in a foreign policy role under a potential second Trump administration. As for Musk, Trump sees him as someone who could advance cost-cutting measures within the federal government.

Transition preparations

Trump's transition team includes Gabbard and Kennedy

Last month, both Gabbard and Kennedy were appointed to Trump's transition team. This group is tasked with assisting Trump in selecting policies and personnel should he win the White House in November. Gabbard is a military veteran who ran for president as a Democrat in 2020 before distancing herself from the party. Kennedy also initially launched a bid to win the Democratic nomination but later ran as an independent before withdrawing and backing Trump.
