What's the story

Iran's Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, has accused the United States of double standards in its approach to Russian oil. In a social media post, Araghchi alleged that Washington pressured India to stop importing Russian oil for months. "The US spent months on bullying India into ending oil imports from Russia. After two weeks of war with Iran, White House is now begging the world—incl India—to buy Russian crude," he wrote on X.

Araghchi slams European governments for supporting US

Araghchi also slammed European governments for supporting what he called an "illegal war" against Iran in a bid to get US backing against Russia. His comments came after the Trump administration announced a 30-day waiver allowing countries to buy sanctioned Russian oil cargoes stuck at sea. This decision was taken as crude prices soared past $100 per barrel due to supply disruptions from the Middle East conflict and Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

"Yes, because India and Iran are friends," he was reported as saying when asked about the transit of Indian ships through the strategic waterway.
