US to expand military operations at 4 Northern Mariana airfields
World
The US is planning to expand military operations at four airfields in the western Pacific, like Tinian, to keep up with China's growing missile capabilities.
These proposed airfields in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands will support more than 6,000 aircraft operations a year and help the US disperse aircraft and strengthen resilience.
Airfields to support agile combat employment
These airfields will be prepared to support regular military exercises and deployments as part of a strategy called Agile Combat Employment, basically spreading out forces so they are harder to target but still ready for action near Guam.
Fun fact: Tinian is not just strategic now; it is also where bombers took off for historic missions during World War II.
