Video appears to show US missile striking Iranian school compound
What's the story
A video released by Iranian state media appears to show a United States cruise missile hitting a building at the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) naval base adjacent to an elementary school in Minab. The attack killed around 175 Iranian students and staff at a girl's school, Iranian state media said. The seven-second clip was shared by Mehr News, an Iranian state news agency, and shows the missile hitting what seems to be a health clinic inside the compound.
Report
Israel does not operate Tomahawk missile
According to NPR, the strike appears to have occurred soon after the girl's school was hit. The latest footage shows smoke billowing from the area of the compound where the school was located A munition consistent with an American BGM or UGM-109 Tomahawk Land Attack Missile (TLAM) is seen in the footage, which was shot from nearby construction site, CNN reported. Tomahawk missiles are launched from the US Navy's surface ships and submarines. Experts say Israel does not operate Tomahawks.

Video shows Tomahawk missile: Expert
While the video quality makes it hard to tell exactly what kind of munition it is, Jeffrey Lewis, a professor of global security at Middlebury College, said the missile seems like a Tomahawk cruise missile. The US is known to possess such missiles, and US officials confirmed military operations in southern Iran during the strike. "The first shooters at sea were Tomahawks unleashed by the US Navy," Gen. Dan Caine, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said earlier.

Trump blames Iran for school bombing
President Donald Trump, on the other hand, accused Iran of carrying out the school bombing, saying they are very inaccurate with their munitions. "Based on what I've seen, I think it was done by Iran," Trump said. "Because they're very inaccurate." However, Lewis noted that the missile didn't match known Iranian designs. NPR verified the video's location using satellite imagery and local construction firm posts, confirming it was shot at a compound that used to be an IRGC naval base.
