Bugatti's last W-16 track car sold for €4M
What's the story
Bugatti has officially ended the production of its Bolide, a track-focused car featuring the iconic W-16 engine. The final unit of this limited-edition model was recently picked up directly from the factory in northeastern France by a collector. The owner, who already owns a classic Type 35 and a Veyron Grand Sport, paid €4 million for this unique piece of automotive history.
Next steps
Bugatti is still delivering its Mistral model
Despite the end of Bolide production, Bugatti is still delivering its Mistral model. This roadster, limited to 99 units, features the W-16 engine that was first introduced with the Veyron two decades ago. However, as deliveries continue and production comes to an end, Bugatti is also preparing for a new era with its Tourbillon model.
Upcoming model
Bugatti Tourbillon: A look at the future
The Tourbillon, which will replace the Chiron, will be powered by an all-new Cosworth-developed V-16 engine. This marks a departure from the quad-turbocharged setup of its predecessors. The new engine has a larger displacement (8.4-liter vs 8.0) and is part of a hybrid system to comply with stricter emissions regulations. Deliveries for this groundbreaking model are set to begin next year.
Revival initiative
Bugatti's Programme Solitaire: Reviving older models
Bugatti's new Programme Solitaire will focus on existing powertrains and chassis, leading to one-off commissions like the Brouillard. This initiative is similar to Pagani's approach of revamping older cars with updated styling and hardware. Despite the introduction of a new V-16 engine, there's a chance that the W-16 could still make headlines in the future through these unique projects.
