Ford previews compact electric pickup for 2027 via hidden site
Ford just dropped some early hints about its new compact electric pickup, set to arrive in 2027.
The sneak peek came from a hidden website you could only reach by scanning a QR code on a test truck.
On the page: camouflaged prototypes tackling tough tests and first-look design sketches.
Ford Maverick-sized EV with megacast parts
The truck is about Maverick-sized with a short cargo bed, practical for city life or weekend trips.
Even as Ford tweaks its electric vehicle, or EV, plans, this affordable model is still moving forward.
Sketches show off a boxy shape and vertical headlights, keeping things simple but useful.
Built on Ford's Universal Electric Vehicle platform, it uses megacast parts for easier building.
Ford modular assembly could speed production
Ford's using a modular assembly process in a section of the factory that Ford calls "The Chapel of Love" where the front, center, and back come together efficiently.
The floor-mounted battery runs at 400 volts and has vehicle-to-load tech, so you can power gadgets or gear right from your truck.
Mark Gentry, who works at Ford's New Model Program Development Center (NMPDC), says this process is much more efficient than before, which could mean quicker production down the road.
