India just set a new scooter sales record for May 2026, moving nearly 7.4 lakh units, a solid 27% jump over last year and up 7% from April.
This is the fourth month this year to cross the seven lakh mark, showing scooters are still a go-to choice for many.
Electric scooters 18% share, Honda leads
Electric scooters now make up 18% of all sales, reflecting how more people are choosing them over gasoline models.
Honda led with 2,53,581 units sold but saw its market share dip to 34%, while TVS Motors grew fast with 2,10,450 sold, including 42,192 e-scooters.
Suzuki and Hero MotoCorp also saw gains, but the real standouts were Bajaj (up 52%), Yamaha (up 60%), and Ather Energy, which grew by an impressive 67% thanks to demand for its Rizta and 450X models.
