Mercedes-Benz's design boss Gorden Wagener is stepping down in 2026

Gorden Wagener, who's been shaping the look of Mercedes-Benz since 1997, has announced he'll leave his role as Chief Design Officer on January 31, 2026.
After nearly three decades and a big impact on the brand, he's decided it's time to move on.

From icons like the SLR McLaren and AMG GT to electric models like the EQ series and Vision Iconic concept, his vision has set the tone for both classic and future rides.

Who's taking over?

Bastian Baudy will step in as Chief Design Officer from February 1, 2026.
He currently leads design at Mercedes-AMG.
