Mobileye plans 100 robotaxis in major US city by 2027
Mobileye, the Israeli self-driving tech company, just announced plans to roll out its own robotaxi service in a major US city by 2027.
They'll start with 100 autonomous cars and hope to scale up to about 17,000 vehicles within five years, putting them in the ring with big names like Waymo, Tesla, and Zoox.
Mobileye to use Moovit and partners
The service will run on Mobileye's own self-driving system and use Moovit, its Moovit subsidiary, for trip planning and ride coordination.
Instead of building their own cars, they'll team up with outside manufacturers and fleet partners.
CEO Amnon Shashua says the goal is to show how ready autonomous mobility really is, without messing up their current partnerships with carmakers.
Investors seem into it too: Mobileye's shares jumped over 4% after the news.
