What's the story

Nissan has unveiled its latest all-electric vehicle, the Nissan Micra, a compact car aimed at energizing the small car market. The new model shares its platform with the upcoming Renault 5, a product of the ongoing collaboration between Nissan and Renault. The design of this vehicle was conceptualized by Nissan's London office and is set to hit the European market later this year. But will it also come to India considering Nissan no longer sells the fuel-powered Micra here?

Specifications

First, take a look at Micra EV's specs

The new Micra will be offered in two battery variants - a 40kWh and a 52kWh option. The bigger one should deliver an impressive range of some 400km, matching the expected performance of its Renault counterpart. This will be a major departure from the previous generations of the Micra, which were all combustion-engine models. Despite sharing a similar boxy silhouette with the Renault 5, Nissan has infused design elements inspired by its own heritage into the new Micra.

Production insights

Nissan Micra EV's exterior design and production details

The production version of the all-electric Micra borrows a lot of design cues from the motorsport-themed 20-23 EV concept unveiled two years ago. Notably, it sports Nissan logo-shaped circular LED headlights. The width-wide light strip on the front bumper has been swapped with a silver trim and regular ORVMs have been employed instead of slimmer ones. Renault will make the zero-emission Micra in France, using its CMF-BEV platform and underpinnings shared with Renault 5.

India availability

Micra may return to India in electric form

The Micra was discontinued in India in 2020 due to factors like low sales volume and the high cost of upgrading to meet BS6 emission standards. Nissan's current focus in India remains on its SUV lineup, particularly the Magnite. However, there is speculation about its return in electric form, given the growing demand for affordable EVs in the Indian market. We may see Micra EV debut here in 2026 to take on EVs priced around ₹10 lakh.
