Porsche has filed a patent for a unique W-shaped 18-cylinder engine, aiming to shake up how high-performance engines are built.
The design cleverly positions exhausts below and intakes above each cylinder bank, which helps keep things cooler and boosts performance—a fresh take on combustion tech for 2025.

Patent includes smaller 9- and 15-cylinder versions

The patent also covers 9- and 15-cylinder versions, all focused on reducing friction and keeping intake and exhaust air separate for better efficiency.
Each engine bank can handle its own turbocharger, so a triple-turbo setup is possible.
While Porsche hasn't shared power numbers yet, this move shows they're serious about protecting their ideas and pushing boundaries in both traditional and hybrid engines.
