Varanasi gets its 1st commercial EV charging station
Varanasi just got its very first commercial EV charging station, finally giving the city's 37,000+ electric car owners and 28,000 e-rickshaw drivers an official public place to power up.
District Magistrate Satyendra Kumar kicked things off at an Indian Oil outlet in Harsos, and the new spot uses fast-charging tech so you won't be stuck waiting around.
Previously, the only charging station was at the Transport Corporation's workshop and was not officially open to the public.
More charging stations are on the way
There's more good news: three more stations are coming soon near Sant Kabir Park, the Divisional Commissioner's office, and Lalpur—thanks to the Adani Group.
The goal is to make charging easier for everyone and stop illegal electricity hookups for EVs.
Why this matters for Varanasi
This move is a big step toward cleaner transport in Varanasi.
With better charging options rolling out, switching to electric vehicles becomes way more practical for locals and tourists—and it all helps cut down pollution for a healthier city vibe.
