What's the story

Volkswagen has officially announced its plans to bring two new models, the Volkswagen Golf GTI and the Tiguan R-Line, to the Indian market. The company is targeting an early Q2 2025 launch. Both vehicles will be brought in as completely built-up (CBU) units, which could make them pricier owing to high import duties. The move comes as a strategic decision by Volkswagen India considering India's growing SUV demand.

A look at the Golf GTI

The new Golf GTI packs a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. The motor produces an impressive 265hp of power and 370Nm of torque. It is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox which drives only the front wheels. The sporty hatch can go 0-100km/h in just 5.9 seconds and hit a top speed of up to 250km/h, Volkswagen claims.

Design details of the Golf GTI

The Golf GTI features Volkswagen's signature design language with matrix LED headlights, a sporty grille with the iconic 'VW' emblem sitting in the middle, and an aggressive front bumper with a honeycomb mesh pattern. The car also gets 18-inch Richmond alloy wheels, a dynamic diffuser, and a dual exhaust system at the rear. Plus, it gets GTI badges on the grille, fenders, and tailgate for good measure.

Car #2

Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line: A sporty SUV

The Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line is basically a sportier avatar of the regular Tiguan, with sporty design elements but no mechanical upgrades. The SUV flaunts VW's new design language with a curvy look over its predecessor's boxy dimensions and straight lines. The car also gets sleek IQ Light HD Matrix headlights, R-Line front grille, dual-tone alloy wheels, and dual-tip exhaust outlets. It is powered by a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that makes 190hp/320Nm.
