Rumours about demonetization of Rs 10 coins spread in Bengaluru, creating chaos as more and more citizens found it difficult to use their coins for payment. Vendors stopped accepting Rs 10 coins. Heavy security around Parappana Agrahara jail ahead of Sasikala's arrival

Security was beefed up around the Parappana Agrahara jail on the outskirts of Bengaluru ahead of AIADMK General Secretary V.K. Sasikala's arrival at the special court inside the jail. VN Sudhakaran and Ilavarasi, both convicts in the disproportionate assets case, will serve their sentences here. Previously, Sasikala and Jayalalithaa had spent 21 days here in 2014 before getting bail.

BBMP to install 1,000 CCTV cameras to monitor waste disposal

The BBMP will install 1,000 CCTV cameras in the city by March to monitor garbage disposal patterns of citizens. The BBMP is concerned about a repeat of history: when waste segregation was enforced earlier, people had taken to dumping waste on streets. 600 mustering points, where collecting autos transfer garbage to large compactors, and 450 black spots have been identified.

Indian Multi-Role Helicopter model unveiled at Aero India

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar unveiled a full-scale mock-up of the Indian Multi-Role Helicopter at Aero India 2017 at the Yelahanka airbase. The minister reiterated the government's support to encourage indigenous capabilities. However, in a break from tradition, CM Siddaramaiah skipped the inaugural meet on February 14. Anil Ambani is meanwhile set to fly sortie in the Rafale fighter jet on Day 2.

Residents give call to 'Save Nallurahalli' amid civic apathy

Nallurahalli residents launched the #NallurahalliKapadi (Save Nallurahalli) movement after they spotted sinkholes in a newly-repaired part of Borewell Road. Apart from dysfunctional street lights and open drains, the suburb is also plagued by high air pollution, lack of traffic enforcement and litter. An underground drainage line that was to be established by October 2016 still remains incomplete, disrupting movement on the roads.

Teen kills alcoholic father to save mother

19-year-old Revanth of Subramanyanagar stabbed his drunkard father to death while trying to save his mother from being beaten by him. According to reports, his father habitually assaulted his mother. Revanth had tried to convince him to give up alcohol many times. The teenager, a first-year BCom student of a college in Rajajinagar, has been taken into custody.

Taxi strike

35,000 cabs stay off roads in protest

35,000 cabs stayed off the roads in Bengaluru on February 15 in protest against dynamic pricing and cab leasing, etc. A demonstration was held in the morning at the transport department in Shantinagar, where 5,00 cab drivers and auto drivers' union members were expected to participate. This is the second strike by Ola and Uber drivers in less than a month.

Prostitution racket

Prostitution racket busted, five minors rescued

K.G. Halli police busted a prostitution racket and rescued five minor girls aged 14-17. Six people, including three women, have been arrested in the case. The girls were lured with the promise of money and food. The accused have been charged under relevant sections of the POCSO and Juvenile Justice Act. The five girls, meanwhile, have been reunited with their families.
