Adani Defence to start making helicopters in India
Adani Defence (part of the Adani Group) just signed a deal with Italy's Leonardo to start making helicopters in India.
The goal? Build a full ecosystem for choppers that the Indian armed forces need, all under the push for "Aatmanirbhar Bharat" (self-reliant India).
The agreement was inked on February 3 in New Delhi.
Focusing on 2 helicopter models
They're focusing on two helicopter models—AW169M and AW109 TrekkerM—and plan to set up everything from manufacturing to maintenance, repairs, and even pilot training right here in India.
With over 1,000 new helicopters needed by the military, this is a big step toward making more defense tech locally instead of importing it.
Boosting local jobs and skills
This move isn't just about fancy aircraft—it's about growing high-tech jobs, boosting skills at home, and giving India more control over its own defense gear.
Plus, it follows another recent Adani deal for regional aircraft production—so things are moving fast in Indian aerospace.
