Akasa Air's ambitious plans for international expansion
Akasa Air, India's youngest budget airline, has big dreams of flying more international routes from Delhi and other cities. But there's a snag: Boeing is behind on delivering new planes.
Right now, Akasa runs 30 aircraft and has a total order of 226 aircraft, with deliveries through 2032.
Even with these delays, the airline says it's staying positive about growing its network.
Akasa Air's soaring ambitions
Since launching in August 2022, Akasa has quickly reached 24 Indian cities and six international spots like Doha, Jeddah, Riyadh, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, and Phuket.
It already holds rights for places like Singapore and the Maldives and is eyeing future flights to Africa too.
Financials and future funding
Last year wasn't all smooth sailing—Akasa made ₹4,582 crore in revenue but faced losses of nearly ₹2,000 crore.
Still, they've just raised ₹1,200 crore to upgrade their fleet and tech.
The goal? Boost international flights from 13% to 40% over five years while hiring new talent and keeping things efficient.
