Amazon's AGI boss Rohit Prasad is leaving in 2024

Business

Rohit Prasad, who leads Amazon's artificial general intelligence (AGI) team, will step down at the end of this year as part of a big shake-up.
CEO Andy Jassy is merging the AGI group with Amazon's chip and quantum computing teams, putting longtime exec Peter DeSantis in charge of the new combined unit.

Why does this matter?

Amazon is reorganizing to move faster and compete with AI giants like OpenAI and Google.
By bringing together its Nova AI models, custom chips (like Trainium and Graviton), and quantum research under one leader, Amazon hopes to speed up innovation at a crucial moment for AI.

Who are the key players?

Peter DeSantis, who's been at Amazon since 1998 and helped build core AWS services, will now lead all these advanced tech teams.
Rohit Prasad—who joined in 2013, led Alexa's science team, and launched the Nova model family—was thanked by Jassy for his big role in shaping Amazon's AI journey.
