Bank unions across India announce September walkouts, consider indefinite strike
Business
Heads up: major bank unions across India have announced a four-day strike next month.
It starts with a one-day walkout on September 11, then a three-day all-India strike from September 28 to 30.
If talks don't work out, they're even considering an indefinite strike from October 26.
Bank unions demand 5-day week, pensions
The unions are pushing for a five-day work week (which was agreed upon in the 12th Bipartite Settlement/9th Joint Note signed on March 8, 2024), fairer incentives, since most staff get way less than senior officers, and better pension benefits.
They also want a uniform DA formula for all pensioners and for employees on the New Pension Scheme to have the option to return to the old one.
The UFBU says real progress depends on open discussions with the government.
