C-DEP report urges anti-dumping duties to protect MSMEs, ₹2,139 cr
A new C-DEP Research report says dumped imports are causing big trouble for India's Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), affecting over ₹2,139 crore in investments.
The report wants the government to act fast and put anti-dumping duties in place, as suggested by the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR).
Trade remedies could save ₹1,749 cr
According to the report, strong trade remedies could help replace imports and save up to ₹1,749 crore in foreign exchange.
Some sectors, like fishnets and vacuum-insulated flasks, have already seen benefits from these measures.
But MSMEs still face risks from loopholes like transshipment and product tweaks.
The report highlights cases such as DASDA (a dye intermediate), where dumping has led to plant closures and job losses, urging that MSME interests should be a priority because they are vital for jobs and manufacturing resilience.
