Dario Amodei, Sam Altman and Elon Musk urge AI slowdown
Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, is asking the AI world to slow things down and add stronger safety checks, including outside reviews, before rolling out even more advanced models.
He's not alone; OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Elon Musk (xAI) are also backing this call, as worries grow about how fast AI is changing industries.
US chip stocks down 14%
The slowdown talk has rattled markets a bit: US chip stocks are down 14% and Asian tech shares have slipped almost 8% since June.
Still, some experts think taking a breather could actually help companies make better use of what they already have.
As Billy Leung puts it, "The three CEOs agreeing to pace things does not really change the money being spent on chips, power, and infrastructure. In fact, it extends the development timeline."
Plus, more safeguards might boost areas like cybersecurity and make the whole AI scene steadier in the long run.
