From April India requires extra ID with Aadhaar for PAN
Business
From April 1, 2026, getting or using a PAN card in India is changing.
Now, you'll need to show extra documents, like your birth certificate or passport, along with Aadhaar when applying for a PAN.
The goal? Making sure your name matches on both cards and cutting down on mix-ups.
India expands PAN use for transactions
PAN will be required for more money moves: annual bank deposits or withdrawals of ₹10 lakh or more in a year, buying vehicles above ₹5 lakh, and all new insurance policies (no matter the premium).
Property deals over ₹20 lakh now need a PAN too — that's up from the old ₹10 lakh limit.
Even cash payments above ₹1 lakh at hotels or restaurants will need your PAN.
