Google $15 billion Visakhapatnam data center not halted by court
Google's massive $15 billion data center in Visakhapatnam is still under construction, even though a public interest lawsuit tried to pause it.
The Andhra Pradesh High Court didn't stop the project but did highlight concerns about environmental clearances, water use, and power consumption, basically telling everyone to stick to all regulations.
Andhra Pradesh defends approvals, activists protest
The state government insists all approvals are legit, and says the new data center could create nearly 200,000 jobs and boost renewable energy and cloud tech.
But not everyone's convinced: activists have protested its heavy resource use, and the petition also cited incentives worth around ₹22,000 crore.
Activists and children summed up their worries with the slogan "We cannot drink DATA," pointing out fears for Vizag's environment.
