Government data shows air passenger prices up nearly 32%
If you've been thinking flights feel pricier lately, you're right, air passenger service prices jumped nearly 32% compared to last year, hitting their biggest increase among all tracked services.
The government's new data shows the Air Passenger Service Price Index at 126.4 for this quarter, up from 106.9 just last quarter.
This is the first time we're seeing official year-on-year inflation numbers for air travel.
Banking, pension and train costs rise
It wasn't just flights that saw changes. Banking Service Contribution Index climbed by almost 6.90%, and pension fund management costs bounced back with a 5.20% rise after dipping previously.
Train fares grew a bit too, up by about 3.5%, while freight rates barely moved.
Interestingly, costs for securities transactions actually dropped by over 1%.
The next update on these price trends comes out November 25, so stay tuned if you want to keep an eye on what's getting more expensive (or cheaper)!
