#FinancialBytes: How to check your PF balance

Gone are the days when your Employees Provident Fund (EPF) details were released at the end of the financial year. Now, the EPFO offers a number of easy and convenient ways for all its registered members to check balances of their respective EPF accounts at any time of the year. Here, we list the various ways in which you can check your EPF balance.

Basic requirements to check your EPF balance

Keep all the necessary details ready beforehand, including your UAN, PAN details, Aadhaar details, KYC verification, mobile number, and your bank account details. To know your UAN, check your salary slips, or contact your organization's HR department. Ensure that your UAN is activated and linked with your PAN, Aadhaar, mobile number, and bank account. Finally, register on the EPFO website, and get a password.

Check your EPF balance directly on the EPFO website

The simplest way to check your EPF balance is by logging on to the EPFO website. Enter your UAN number and password, then click on 'For Employees' option and select 'Our Services'. Now click on 'Member Passbook' option. On the new page, enter your UAN and password. Your PF balance details will show up. Notably, a PDF copy can also be saved.

Use the UMANG app to know your EPF balance

The 'Unified Mobile-Application for New-age Governance' or UMANG is a one-stop app to access all pan-India e-governance services, including EPF. First, download and open the app on your mobile. Click on the 'Services' section, go to 'Employment and Skills', and provide the required details. After filling the details, you can check your balance, apply for a claim, and track the status of such applications.

Another easy way to check EPF balance from your phone

One can also check their EPF balance on the m-Seva app launched by the Central government. First, download and open the app on your mobile phone. Open the app, click on 'Members', and enter details of your mobile number, employee number, UAN, etc. to activate the UAN. Then, login with your UAN and password, and go to 'Passbook' to check your EPF balance.

Checking your EPF balance via SMS

To get your EPF balance details through SMS, all you have to do is type EPFOHO UAN (number) ENG (or the first-three digits of any supported language of your choice) and send an SMS to 7738299899. You'll subsequently receive a text message displaying your EPF balance. You can choose any language from a list of ten, including English, Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil, and Bengali.

Give a missed call, and get details of EPF balance

To get your EPF balance information through the missed call service of EPFO, simple give a missed call on 011-22901406 from your registered mobile number. You'll receive an SMS on your mobile denoting the EPF balance, and other details. One thing you'll have to make sure is that your UAN is activated, and already linked with your PAN, Aadhaar, bank account, and mobile number.
