Hyperscale Power raises $280 million to build solid-state transformers for data centers
Hyperscale Power is reimagining how we power up data centers by swapping out old-school iron-core transformers (yep, the kind that's been around for 140 years) with new solid-state versions.
These next-generation transformers are smaller and can achieve very high efficiency (Hyperscale's co-founder reported a 99.1% efficient prototype), and they address the rising energy needs of today's massive data centers.
The sector just saw $280 million in fresh funding, and Hyperscale Power itself landed €5 million from World Fund and Vsquared Ventures.
Rothmund's research into solid-state transformers led to the founding of Hyperscale
With their latest funding, Hyperscale Power wants to make these transformers even tinier, something CEO Daniel Rothmund said is important as data centers get bigger and hungrier for energy.
Rothmund designed and built a 99.1% efficient solid-state transformer while completing his PhD at ETH Zurich.
As AI keeps growing, having compact and super-efficient transformers could be a game changer, and Hyperscale's founders bring deep experience to this fast-moving market.
