Income Tax Department urges filing ITRs by Aug 31
Heads up if you earn from a business or profession and don't need a tax audit: the Income Tax Department wants your ITR for AY 2026-27 by August 31.
Already, over 6.5 crore returns/ITRs have been filed, with more than 2 crore using the ITR-3 and ITR-4 forms.
The department's post on X encourages everyone to "Be the tax hero who files on time."
Not sure which form? Use ITR-3 if you're an individual or HUF earning income from a proprietary business or profession, ITR-4 for small and medium taxpayers, and ITR-5 for firms, LLPs, and cooperative societies, and ITR-7 for trusts and charitable institutions.
Over 5.9cr filed ITR-1 and ITR-2
On July 31, over 5.9 crore people filed their returns using ITR-1 and ITR-2: these are mostly for salaried folks who don't need audits.
This reminder is all about making sure everyone stays compliant before the clock runs out next week!
