India and EU move closer to a major trade deal
India and the European Union have prepared a rough outline for a big free trade agreement (FTA) after meeting in Jaipur this week.
The talks, led by Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic, covered 23 different policy areas and are working toward an early conclusion, with hopes to announce progress around India's Republic Day summit in January.
Why does this matter?
This FTA could make it easier for both sides to do business—think fewer tariffs, better access for Indian goods like textiles and electronics, and more opportunities for European products such as cars and medical devices.
There are still some tough issues to work out, like carbon taxes and intellectual property rights, but both sides see huge potential.
If all goes well, this deal could boost jobs, exports, and tech sharing—making it a win-win for young professionals and entrepreneurs on both continents.
