India's indirect tax collections top targets above ₹15.52L/cr for FY26
Business
The Indian government just outdid itself on indirect taxes for 2025-26, with the target set at over ₹15.52 lakh crore.
Customs, excise, and CGST all crossed their targets: customs duties hit 102% of the goal, excise reached 101%, and CGST landed at 100.8%.
Collections 101.2%, new cess 2-thirds
Overall GST and non-GST collections topped expectations at 101.2% of the target.
One hiccup: the new health and national security cess (mainly on pan masala) only brought in about two-thirds of what was hoped for since launching in February, but officials are optimistic it'll pick up in the current fiscal as things settle in.
