India's mutual funds grow 17.1% annually, global share exceeds 1%
India's mutual fund scene has been booming, growing at a rapid 17.1% annual rate from late 2020 to 2025, more than double the global average.
Thanks to this surge, India's share of worldwide mutual fund assets climbed from just 0.64% to more than 1%.
SIPs fuel retail investor surge
More investors are jumping in via systematic investment plans, or SIPs, boosted by better financial awareness and easy digital access.
Growing regulatory credibility has also helped smooth the way.
Still, India's mutual fund assets are only about 13.7% of GDP, far behind the global average of nearly 64.7%, so there's plenty of room for more people to get involved.
Plus, investor numbers soared from 23 million in March 2021 to 61 million by March 2026, with monthly SIPs hitting record highs, showing just how much retail participation is taking off.
