OPEC says India could add up to 8.1Mbpd by 2050
India is expected to be the biggest driver of global oil demand over the 25 years to 2050, according to OPEC's latest report.
The country could add up to 8.1 million barrels per day by 2050, showing that oil will stay important, even as renewables like solar and wind become more popular.
OPEC predicts demand rise to 124.1Mbpd
OPEC predicts worldwide oil demand will climb from 113.3 million barrels a day in 2030 to 124.1 million barrels a day by 2050, mostly thanks to developing economies like India.
Other regions such as Other Asia, the Middle East, and Africa are also expected to see big increases.
Meanwhile, developed countries are likely to see flat or falling demand for oil, even with renewables making up around 26% of the global energy mix by 2050.
Still, fossil fuels (oil and gas) are projected to supply more than half of global energy needs for decades to come.
