Pinterest fires employees for tracking who got laid off
Pinterest, the platform known for its endless inspiration boards, just laid off about 15% of its team as part of a shift toward AI projects.
But things got tense when two engineers were fired—not for being laid off, but for using scripts to track who was losing their jobs.
Two engineers were let go
Pinterest let go of two engineers who wrote custom scripts to improperly access confidential company information and spot which coworkers had been cut.
The company said this broke privacy rules and crossed a line with internal tools.
Around 700 roles were affected
Around 700 roles were affected out of Pinterest's 5,200-person workforce. The company did not provide a timeline or cost estimate for the restructuring.
FYI: Big tech layoffs are everywhere right now—Amazon just cut 16,000 jobs and Meta trimmed hundreds earlier this year.
