QatarEnergy to restart Ras Laffan LNG, hit 50% then 80%
Qatar is getting ready to ramp up its liquefied natural gas (LNG) output once the Strait of Hormuz reopens.
QatarEnergy says it will hit 50% production in a month and reach 80% in two months.
Its Ras Laffan complex, which exported almost a fifth of global supply last year, has been mostly offline since March 2026 after Iranian missile strikes damaged the facility during the effective closure of Hormuz.
QatarEnergy repairs, exports minimal, shortages expected
Since April, QatarEnergy has been busy testing and fixing equipment so it could bounce back fast.
It has kept some gas flowing to nearby countries, but exports have been minimal and shipping to Asia meant hiding tanker locations for safety.
With Hormuz reopening, global LNG shortages should ease up, which could help bring down those high energy prices in Europe and Asia, though clearing mines might slow things down a bit.
