Renault, the French car giant, just announced it's teaming up with defense tech firm Thales to build weaponized kamikaze drones: think drones that hover over targets and then strike.
This marks Renault's latest defense move, and these drones are mainly aimed at export markets.
Production could kick off in 2027
Production could kick off in 2027, with plans to make about 1,000 drones a month.
While Renault isn't ruling out ground-based drones in the future, it has made it clear tanks aren't on its radar.
Most drone parts will come from French or European suppliers, supporting France's push for a stronger homegrown defense industry.
This move also follows a trend: other big European automakers like Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz are getting into military tech too.
