Samsung announces $79.4 billion payout plan, shares fall 8%
Samsung just announced a massive $79.4 billion payout plan for shareholders this year, with a big chunk, 30 trillion won, coming as a cash dividend in the third quarter.
They're also promising to share half of their free cash flow from 2024 to 2026.
But even though this is way more than what they gave out in 2020, analysts think it's not enough, and Samsung's stock took an 8% hit early Monday.
KOSPI falls as Samsung buybacks absent
The KOSPI index dropped by 1.5%, while competitor SK Hynix saw a small bump up.
Some experts, like Eugene Securities's Sohn In-joon, were hoping for buybacks or canceling treasury shares to help boost prices but didn't see them in the announcement.
On the employee side, Samsung has bought back shares worth 15 trillion won for employee stock bonuses, and any extra payouts will be decided by the board in January 2027.
