The Sensex had a roller coaster Wednesday, climbing 1.6% to was trading at 73,102.90, even after dropping 850 points from its high earlier in the day.
Nifty also was trading at 22,665.65, up by more than 330 points.
Analysts say Nifty must clear 23,000
Most stocks were in the green. The wild swings came as investors locked in profits after a big morning rally and kept an eye on global tensions, especially news from Iran about tighter rules for ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
Analysts say Nifty needs to clear the 23,000 mark for more sustained growth ahead.
