What's the story

The benchmark Sensex and Nifty indices on Friday showed an upward trend, continuing their winning streak for the third consecutive day. The Sensex rose 0.56% to 54,481.84 points while the Nifty gained 0.54% to end at 16,220.6 points. Meanwhile, the midcap stocks traded flat with the Nifty Midcap 50 settling at 7,667.35 points. Who were the biggest gainers and losers on Friday?

As far as the top sector gainers are concerned, NIFTY INFRA, NIFTY ENERGY, and NIFTY PSE topped the list, edging up 1.15%, 0.98%, and 0.77%, respectively. The top gaining stocks were Larsen, Power Grid Corp, and Sun Pharma, adding 4.69%, 3.03%, and 2.39%, respectively. Among the biggest stock losers were HDFC Life, Tata Steel, and ONGC, which plunged 1.71%, 1.67%, and 1.58%, respectively.

The Asian markets witnessed mixed trading on Friday. While the Hang Seng Index and the Nikkei slipped to 21,725.78 points and 26,517.19 points, respectively, the Shanghai Composite Index soared 0.25% to 3,356.08 points. In the US market, NASDAQ rose 259.5 points to 11,621.35 points.

INR goes down 0.09% against the US Dollar

The Indian rupee (INR) slipped 0.09% to settle at Rs. 79.25 against the US Dollar in the forex trade on Friday. The gold and silver futures prices witnessed little movement, largely trading flat. While the gold futures settled at Rs. 50,649, the silver futures closed at Rs. 56,838. Also, the crude oil futures fell by $0.73 or 0.71% to $102.68/barrel.

Fuel prices in Delhi and Mumbai remain unchanged

The fuel prices in Delhi remain unchanged on Friday, with diesel priced at Rs. 89.66/liter and petrol costing Rs. 96.76/liter. Meanwhile, in Mumbai, diesel costs Rs. 97.26/liter and petrol is priced at Rs. 111.33/liter.
