Tata Power plans India's largest solar wafer, ingot factory
Business
Tata Power just announced plans for a massive new solar wafers and ingots factory—set to be the largest in India with a 10 GW capacity.
This move will round out their solar manufacturing chain and help cut down on imports from China, supporting India's push for more homegrown clean energy.
The company is also looking at nuclear energy
The company is waiting on government support, with a final decision expected in the next two months.
CEO Praveer Sinha shared that they're focusing on wafers and ingots because US tariffs make exporting Indian solar modules tough, plus there's already plenty of module-making capacity.
Tata Power is also eyeing nuclear energy as India looks to ramp up its nuclear power from 8 GW today to at least 100 GW by 2047.
