Unrelated to recent friction between Twitter, Indian government: Report
  • The development comes at a time when Twitter has been under the Indian government's scanner for violations of the law.

The government has said that Twitter violated Indian law for not taking down tweets talking about the "farmers' genocide."

Sources confirmed to India Today that Kaul's resignation is unrelated to the recent friction between India and the microblogging website.

Twitter under fire for unblocking tweets over farmers' protest
  • Last week, India had sent a strongly-worded letter to Twitter for "unilaterally" deciding to unblock around 250 accounts that the government said were using an objectionable hashtag over the ongoing farmers' protest.

Twitter, on the other hand, said that it had temporarily withheld the accounts while it reviewed the situation and later unblocked them as it felt they constituted "free speech" and were "newsworthy."
