US tech firms cut over 52,000 jobs amid AI shift
The US tech world is seeing a wave of layoffs as companies lean into artificial intelligence.
In just the first three months of 2026, more than 52,000 tech jobs were cut (a 40% jump from last year), with about one-fourth of March job cuts directly linked to AI taking over tasks.
Meta, Amazon and Dell cut thousands
Big players like Meta and Amazon are making major changes: Meta is letting go of around 15,000 people (that's 20% of its staff) to shift resources toward AI projects.
Amazon plans to cut 16,000 corporate roles for similar reasons, while Dell tops the list with 11,000 layoffs.
Overall job cuts lowest since 2022
According to Andy Challenger from Challenger, Gray & Christmas, The tech sector is not alone in this trend. Companies across all sectors are investing heavily in AI.
Interestingly, even with these big shifts in tech, overall job cuts across all industries were at their lowest since 2022, showing how the economy is adjusting beyond just technology.
