White House economic adviser Stephen Miran resigns
Stephen Miran has resigned as chair of the White House Council of Economic Advisers (CEA), sticking to his promise made during Senate confirmation.
He was picked by President Trump in September (2025) to finish Adriana Kugler's term, which ended January 31, 2026.
Miran's exit comes at a tricky time
Miran's exit comes at a tricky time—his replacement is on hold because Senator Thom Tillis is blocking nominees over an investigation into Fed Chair Jerome Powell.
Meanwhile, Miran will keep serving on the Federal Reserve Board until someone new is confirmed.
Who is Stephen Miran?
Harvard-educated and experienced in both finance and policy, Miran served as a senior adviser at the Treasury Department and later worked at the Manhattan Institute and Hudson Bay Capital.
He previously led Trump's CEA and served as a senior adviser at the Treasury Department.
