Noida: Class 9 boy rapes 5-year-old girl, taken into custody

14-year-old boy, who studies in class 9, was taken into custody for allegedly raping a five-year-old girl near her home village adjoining Sector 45 of Noida. The boy, who knew the girl's family, has confessed to committing the crime. The incident came to light after the girl narrated her ordeal to her parents, who filed a police complaint. Doctor kidnapped by Ola driver, rescued after shootout
Dr. Srikanth Goud was finally rescued from Meerut after a 13 day long cat-and-mouse chase, which included two police encounters with accused and deployment of 200 cops for investigation and search operations, came to an end. Four kidnappers were arrested, while five others are still absconding. Dr. Goud was kidnapped in an Ola cab for a ransom of Rs. 5 crore.

Early morning showers lash several areas of Delhi-NCR
Delhi-NCR finally got a break from humid weather after early morning showers lashed several areas and brought down the temperature. There was heavy rainfall in several areas of southern and eastern parts of Delhi; Sectors 12, 16, 18 and 56 in Noida received heavy showers which, however, led to water logging. As it rained before peak traffic hours, no traffic jam was reported.

Rapid rail projects connecting Delhi to Alwar, Panipat approved
In-principle approval for construction of Delhi-Panipat and Delhi-Alwar Regional Rapid Transit Systems projects, estimated at Rs. 53,500 crore, was given by National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). "NHAI has in principle agreed to construction of these two projects along NH-1 and NH-8. NHAI also in-principle, agreed to take up Urban Extension Road-2 which would help in easing traffic congestion in Delhi," government official said.

Fire breaks out in a godown in Anand Prabat
Ten fire tenders rushed to Anand Parbat area after fire broke out at a two-storey godown, used to keep confectionery items. The officials succeeded in putting out the fire. In another incident, fire department was alerted about a fire that broke out in 15-16 shops in Lala Lajpat Rai market. 16 tenders brought it under control. There were no injuries reported in either incidents.

Discom tightens reins on curbing power thefts, recovering penalties
Power discom DHVBVN tightened reins on power thefts in Gurugram by asking its vigilance team to check areas prone to power theft and lodge police cases. The discom will also launch a drive for recovery of penalty. "Our aim is improve electricity distribution. We have to curb thefts and also recover a penalty totalling Rs 5 crore that is still pending," said DHBVN official.
