    Major disaster averted at IGI Airport

    What's the story

    An IndiGo flight veered dangerously close to a Jet Airways aircraft after crossing the centerline on Runway 28 due to "low visibility". Officials alerted the plane authorities in time.

    The incident delayed about 25 flights and many had to be diverted.

    A similar incident had happened in November 2016 at IGI. DGCA has initiated a probe.

    Chandni Chowk

    Chandni Chowk blaze damages more than 30 shops

    A fire in a Chandni Chowk lane, suspected to be caused by a short circuit in a transformer, left a grocery shop destroyed and over 30 damaged. Most sold clothes, while a few sold jewellery. No casualties were reported.

    Some sparking was seen on the same transformer two days ago too, claimed locals.

    The narrow lanes hampered movement of fire engines, delaying operations.

    21-year-old raped in a moving car in Amar Colony

    A Jharkhand woman was raped by a man who had promised her a job, and molested by two others, on January 30 night in a moving car.

    The main accused, Arif, was allegedly drunk and threatened her not to report the matter.

    Arif, Vijay and Meherban were arrested from their residences and remanded to 14-day judicial custody.

    Noida

    Schoolgirl dies after allegedly getting injured at school karate session

    Seven-year-old student Ghazal Yadav died after allegedly getting injured at a karate session at DPS World School in Noida Extension.

    Yadav's father received a call about her having a headache, but half an hour later, he was told she was bleeding through her nose and was being hospitalized.

    The school was later shut down. "We will question the school officials," said Awdhesh Awasthi, SHO.

    Gurugram

    Over 50,000 students create history by singing national song together

    51,000 students from 400 schools sang 'Vande Mataram' together at the Voice of Unity programme at Tau Devi Lal Stadium.

    The programme preceded the four-day Hindu Spiritual and Service Fair at Leisure Valley Grounds.

    Singer Palash Sen and his band Euphoria led the students with CM Manohar Lal Khattar as chief guest.

    The CM also announced Rs 102-crore projects to upgrade 31 roads.

    Faridabad

    31st International Surajkund Crafts Mela kicks off

    Over 20 countries assembled for the 31st International Surajkund Crafts Mela from February 1-15, inaugurated by CM Manohar Lal Khattar.

    Mongolia, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia and Zimbabwe made their debuts.

    Special transport services to and from the venue have been provided from important spots including ISBT Delhi and Shivaji Stadium.

    Ticket discounts are available for students, senior citizens, differently-abled, serving soldiers and more.

    Gurugram Roads

    MCG starts repairs on Gurugram roads

    MCG on January 31 started road repairs in four zones, to be completed by June 30. The entire schedule has been uploaded on its www.mcg.gov.in.

    Out of 31 areas identified, the maximum roads to be repaired are in zone 2 (12). Simultaneous work will continue in zone 1 (11 roads), zone 3 and zone 4 (four roads each).

    The project costs Rs 102.5 crore.

    Illegal notes

    Delhi Vigilance Department in quandary over donation in 'illegal' notes

    The Vigilance Department received a donation of Rs 23,500, intended for the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF), in demonetized notes.

    Deepak K. Tempe, dean of Maulana Azad Medical College, forwarded the packet after receiving it. The packet mentioned PMNRF as the intended recipient.

    It is suspected the donor wasn't able to exchange their notes. The Finance Department will decide the next step.
