Birthday Special: Akshay announces his first historical film, shares teaser
Akshay Kumar, who is celebrating his 52nd birthday today, came up with a perfect gift for his fans, as he announced "one of my biggest movies," Prithviraj. He will be seen playing the role of Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan in the movie. Sharing the teaser of his "first historical film," he stated that he is humbled to play "a hero" he looks up to.
Truly happy to share the news of my first historical film on my birthday. I’m humbled to have the opportunity to play a hero I look up to for his valor and values - Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan - in one of my biggest films #Prithviraj produced by @yrf . For the uninitiated, Prithviraj Chauhan, also popularly known as Rai Pithora from the Chahamana dynasty, was one of the most fearless kings. He had achieved military success against several neighboring Hindu kingdoms, and also repulsed Muhammad of Ghor and his invading army.
Sharing his excitement, Akshay said that the movie will "bring to light the valor and daredevilry" of one of India's most courageous kings. "As a nation, we should always celebrate our heroes and immortalize what they did to propagate the values that Indians lived by," he added. He also mentioned that the big announcement on his birthday "has indeed made it more special."
"It is truly an honor that I will be playing this role. Prithviraj was the only person standing in front of a merciless nemesis and the bravery he showed, made him a true Indian hero, an inspiration for generations and a legend," Akshay asserted.
Bankrolled by Yash Raj Films, Prithviraj is slated to release on Diwali 2020. Interestingly, Akshay's period drama will be clashing with Kangana Ranaut's "one-of-a-kind" action thriller, Dhaakad. Dhaakad will, reportedly, hit the floors early next year, and will be helmed by Razneesh 'Razy' Ghai, and produced by Sohel Maklai Productions and Asylum Films. It will be shot in India and some foreign locations.
Although Prithviraj happens to be Akshay's first historical movie, this isn't the first time that he will be taking the audience back in time. Earlier, he was seen heading a group of 21 Sikh soldiers to a war in Kesari. The movie narrated the courageous story of Battle of Saragarhi, wherein 21 Sikh soldiers of the British Indian Army fought against 10,000 Afghan invaders.
As of now, Akshay is basking in the success of his last release, Mission Mangal, which continues to go strong at the box office, even after a month of its release. Besides, he has several big projects in the pipeline. Currently, he is shooting for his upcoming horror-comedy, Laxmmi Bomb. He will also be seen in Housefull 4, Good News, Bachchan Pandey and Sooryavanshi.
