CBFC issues UA certificate to 'Gangubai Kathiawadi'; suggests minor cuts
'Gangubai Kathiawadi' has received UA certificate from CBFC ahead of its release on February 25.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's much-awaited directorial Gangubai Kathiawadi, starring Alia Bhatt, has received a UA certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The Board has passed the film with some minor cuts ahead of its release on February 25. Notably, Gangubai Kathiawadi marks the first collaboration between Bhansali and Bhatt, and expectations from the movie are riding high as its release gets closer.

What has been modified in 'Gangubai Kathiawadi'?

Reportedly, the CBFC has suggested four modifications in Gangubai Kathiawadi. These included deleting two scenes and changing the words of two dialogues in the movie. A scene in which former Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru embeds a rose on Gangubai has also been modified. Moreover, these minor changes have reduced the total duration of the film by a minute or two.

This is the story of 'Gangubai Kathiawadi'

The film revolves around a young girl in Kamathipura, Mumbai, who becomes a dreaded brothel madame, after facing several hardships in life. It has been inspired by renowned writer Hussain Zaidi's novel Mafia Queens of Mumbai. Interestingly, Gangubai Kathiawadi marks the second collaboration between Bhatt and Ajay Devgn, who will also be seen together in SS Rajamouli's RRR, scheduled to release on March 25.

Selected to be screened at 72nd Berlin Film Festival

Earlier, Gangubai Kathiawadi was also selected to be screened at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival this year. Notably, it is the only Indian film chosen for the Berlinale Special Gala section of the film festival. All the movies picked this year were shot during the pandemic. This marks Bhatt's second stint at the noteworthy film festival after Zoya Akhtar's Gully Boy (2019).

Ajith's 'Valimai' to release a day prior to 'Gangubai Kathiawadi'

Meanwhile, Gangubai Kathiawadi is set for a massive clash with Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar's Valimai at the box office. The latter is scheduled to hit the cinemas in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, and Kannada on February 24, just a day before Gangubai Kathiawadi's release. Valimai, directed by H Vinoth, has Huma Qureshi as the leading lady, while Kartikeya Gummakonda will be the main antagonist.
