What's the story
The Bengali-language historical thriller series Jazz City, directed by Soumik Sen, is set to premiere on March 19 on SonyLIV. The show was earlier scheduled to be released in February but was later postponed to March 2026. Here's everything to know about the upcoming series, produced by Studio 9 and StudioNext.
Storyline
Plot of 'Jazz City'
Jazz City is set in 1970s Calcutta, where the jazz clubs on Park Street are thriving despite the political unrest and the Bangladesh Liberation War. The series follows Jimmy Roy (Arifin Shuvoo) and Sheela (Sauraseni Maitra) as a Kolkata jazz club becomes a hub of espionage and political plans. Speaking about the show earlier, Sen said, "Park Street isn't just a backdrop; it's a memory of taxis, neon, music, and heartbreaks. Jazz City comes from growing up inside those nights."
Cast
Cast and crew of the series
The series features an ensemble cast including Shantanu Ghatak, Aniruddha Gupta, Sayandeep Sen, Shreya Bhattacharya, Alexandra Taylor, and Tanika Basu, among others. The show's music is central to the narrative. Reflecting on the soundtrack, Sen said, "From Rabindra Sangeet and Tagore's shlokas to the imperfect charm of jazz and the crackle of Sakina Begum on the radio, music shapes the emotional rhythm of every moment." "We hope this soundtrack, blending original compositions with public domain gems, connects with audiences."
