'Not kind': Angelina reveals she quit singing because of ex-partner
Angelina Jolie, the Oscar-winning actor, recently revealed that she had stopped singing due to criticism from a former partner. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Jolie shared that she had been discouraged from singing by someone who was "not kind" to her about it. This revelation comes ahead of the release of her new film Maria, where she portrays the late opera singer Maria Callas.
'I just assumed I couldn't really sing...'
The 49-year-old actor told the portal that she hadn't sung for a long time before her new film Maria because one of her exes criticized her voice. "I had somebody in my life who was not kind to me about singing. It was a relationship I was in. And so I just assumed I couldn't really sing," she candidly shared during the interview.

For those unaware, Jolie has been married three times in the past. She was first married to actor Jonny Lee Miller from 1996 to 1999. Her second marriage was to actor Billy Bob Thornton, which lasted from 2000 to 2003. Jolie's most recent marriage was with actor Brad Pitt. The couple fell in love on the set of Mr. & Mrs. Smith in 2005 and got married in 2014.
Jolie's ugly divorce from Pitt still ongoing
Jolie and Pitt separated in 2016 following an alleged violent argument on a plane. Their divorce settlement negotiations are still ongoing, with disputes over custody of their six children (Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox, and Vivienne) and division of assets. Jolie has accused Pitt of being abusive toward her and their children, allegations that he has denied. Some of the Jolie-Pitt children have reportedly dropped their father's surname.
'Maria' received standing ovation at Venice Film Festival
Coming back to Maria, helmed by Pablo Larrain—the film received an eight-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival. During the seven months of training, Jolie discovered that she had a soprano voice—contrary to her previous belief that her voice was deeper. Jolie revealed that her sons Maddox and Pax were present on Maria set. She said, "When I would have really heavy times, they would come over and just give me a hug or a cup of tea."
