Chiranjeevi's 'grandson' remark sparks debate; actor celebrates birth of twins
Entertainment
Chiranjeevi, the Telugu film icon, stirred up a gender debate after jokingly saying that he was "scared" of having another granddaughter and wanted a male heir.
Many online called his remarks "sexist," especially since his family already has five granddaughters.
Criticism didn't stop Chiranjeevi from celebrating Ram-Upasana's twins
While the criticism grew, Chiranjeevi celebrated the arrival of twins—his son Ram Charan and daughter-in-law Upasana's new babies—calling it a "divine blessing" on social media.
Neither he nor Ram Charan addressed the backlash directly.
Meanwhile, actor Lavanya Tripathi (married to Chiranjeevi's nephew) defended him online, saying he has always treated women in the family with respect and felt that critics were taking away from a happy moment.
