Quentin Tarantino is among Hollywood's most acclaimed directors with films like 'Pulp Fiction', 'Reservoir Dogs'. And, Ennio Morricone is the famous composer for iconic Westerns like 'The Good, the Bad and the Ugly', 'Once Upon a Time in the West'. The two collaborated on Tarantino's 'The Hateful Eight'. Recently, an interview surfaced where Morricone lambasted Tarantino but he has denied making disparaging comments. Here's what went down.

Do you know?
Genius seeks out genius

The Tarantino-Morricone collaboration for 'The Hateful Eight' saw the director bringing his unique twist to Westerns, made infinitely better by the composer who had produced some of the finest music for Hollywood's Westerns. Notably, Morricone won an Oscar for his work on 'The Hateful Eight'.

Alleged comments
What did Morricone allegedly say about Tarantino?

A German edition of Playboy came out with an interview where Morricone allegedly called Tarantino a 'cretin' and said that his films were 'trash'. The interview substantiated this, claiming that Morricone was of this opinion because Tarantino had sprung a deadline on him, rushing his creative genius. While Tarantino is known to push people for cinema's sake, Morricone's comments on his films seemed unusual.

Do you know?
Tarantino's ethics of art

Truth be told, Morricone's interview had credibility regarding Tarantino's pushy behavior. Notably, even 'Kill Bill' actress Uma Thurman accused him of forcing her to drive an unsafe car, eventually leading to an accident.

Official statement
A collaboration to be grateful for

Morricone, however, denied these negative comments and instructed his lawyers to take penal and civil action against Playboy Germany. He further expressed his gratitude for working with Tarantino since it won him an Oscar. Speaking about how he cherished his relationship with Tarantino, Morricone also recounted a press conference in London where he hailed Tarantino as 'one of the greatest directors of this time'.

Quote

Morricone said, "I consider Tarantino a great director...fond of my collaboration with him and the relationship we have developed during the time we have spent together. He is courageous and has an enormous personality...responsible for getting me an Oscar... forever grateful for the opportunity."

Opinion
Take a good film and make it better

Morricone's denial comes as no surprise. One might not like Tarantino's behavior which is at times, a little abrasive and has earned him the nickname 'Tantrumtino'. However, to call his films 'trash' would display a severe lack of cinematic understanding on the viewers' part. Fast-paced action, quirky characters, and fantastic script writing culminate with Tarantino's unique perspective to make his body of films outstanding.
