Deepa Mehta, known for her creative work in Marathi cinema and as the first wife of filmmaker-actor Mahesh Manjrekar, has passed away.
Her son Satya shared a heartfelt tribute online, prompting an outpouring of condolences from the film industry.
Deepa also founded the saree brand Queen of Hearts.

Her work beyond films, personal life

Deepa played a key role in shaping the look of many Marathi films with her costume designs. Beyond movies, she made her mark as an entrepreneur with Queen of Hearts—a brand that carved its own identity in the Marathi film space. Her daughter Ashwami is also exploring acting.
Deepa married Manjrekar in 1987; they had two children before separating in 1995.
