Police may drop drug case against actor Shine Tom Chacko
What's the story
The police are reportedly considering dropping a drug case against Malayalam actor Shine Tom Chacko, reported PTI. The decision comes after a chemical analysis report found no traces of narcotic substances in his body. The case was registered in April this year following a raid by the District Anti-Narcotic Special Action Force (DANSAF) at a hotel where Chacko was allegedly present.
Investigation details
Chacko's blood and hair samples were collected for analysis
After the raid, Chacko reportedly fled the scene but later appeared before the police. His blood and hair samples were collected for chemical analysis. An officer from Ernakulam North police station told PTI, "The chemical analysis report we recently received stated that no traces of drugs or narcotic substances were found in the samples provided."
Legal proceedings
Charges under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and NDPS Act
The case against Chacko was registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Section 238 and Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act Sections 27 and 29. The police officer further added, "Since drug consumption could not be established through scientific evidence, it would be difficult to substantiate the conspiracy charge as well."
Actor's response
Chacko's relatives said he was undergoing de-addiction program
After the incident, Chacko's kin had told reporters that he was undergoing a de-addiction program in Bengaluru. In April this year, Chacko and four others were acquitted by an Ernakulam additional sessions court in a 2015 drug case. The actor, who started his career as an assistant director in 2010, has appeared in several Malayalam films.
